How this works
Under R.C. 149.43 anyone can ask a
public office for its records. The office has to hand them over within a
reasonable time. The law does not put a number on “reasonable,”
which is exactly why we publish how long each one has been sitting.
When a request goes unanswered, the next step is a complaint with the Ohio
Court of Claims under R.C. 2743.75. It costs $25 to file and the office
gets three business days to produce the records before the case moves
forward. Any case we have filed is linked above.
Not everything we have filed is listed here. Some requests stay internal
while they are live. You are welcome to file your own: the city’s
clerk takes them, and you do not have to say why you want them.
